Center of Cultural Convergence: University of Kurdistan Hosts "International Students' Day" Ceremony and Honors Elite Students
According to the Public Relations Office of the University of Kurdistan, the "International Students' Day" ceremony was held on Monday, December 22, 2025, to appreciate the presence of and honor distinguished international students. The event underscored the importance of scientific diplomacy and the contribution of foreign students to the nation's academic and cultural excellence.
Macro-Goals for Student Recruitment and Special Facilities for Elites
Dr. Mohammad Bagher Jafari, Director General for International Students Affairs at the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology, stated during the ceremony that "scientific diplomacy never stops," identifying international students as pivotal to improving university rankings, economic development, and global peace.
He announced a target of attracting 320,000 international students by the year 1407 (2028) under the country's Seventh Development Plan. He also revealed the approval and implementation of a comprehensive package of welfare and residency facilities for these students. These facilities include a one-year residency permit with free movement, issuance of bank cards and SIM cards, currency exchange at market rates, insurance, the option to study in English and Arabic, and facilitated re-entry visa issuance without the need to leave the country.
Dr. Jafari further praised the University of Kurdistan as a leading and influential institution in the international arena.

Dr. Yasin Saleh Hama, Deputy Minister for Cultural and International Communications of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, expressed gratitude for the worthy hospitality of the University of Kurdistan. He recognized the university as a top educational institution scientifically and culturally, praising its significant progress.
Pointing to the multicultural environment of the University of Kurdistan, he described it as a valuable opportunity for interaction and mutual understanding among students of different nationalities and urged international students to make the most of this unique feature.
